How does lighting control work with Smart Home

Lighting control in the smart home makes your life easier: you can control lamps automatically, via app or voice command - without any major installation effort. With the Shelly modules, you can retrofit your lighting particularly easily, as they connect your light to the WLAN without any complications.

You can use the app to change the light colour, dim the light or set schedules. You can also conveniently control your lighting system remotely - ideal if you are travelling and have forgotten to switch off a lamp. While you are on holiday, you can use the smart lighting to simulate your presence by automatically switching the lights on and off. This gives you more convenience and security at the same time!

Instructions: Lighting control with the Shelly

You can control and automate your lighting individually with the Shelly app. One special function is setting up scenes. A scene is a predefined combination of actions that controls several devices or functions at the same time - for example, if you set the lighting control according to your individual daily routine and switch certain lights on or off at set times.

You can control your lighting individually with the Shelly app. One particularly cool function is setting up scenes.

Step 2: Select scenes

Tap on "Scenes" in the corresponding room.

Step 3: Create scene

Eitherselect "Add scene" orclick on theblue"+ " nexttotheroomname.

Step 4: Add condition (If)

Define the conditions under which the scene should be triggered (e.g. "when a movement is triggered" or "according to a defined daily or weekly schedule").

Step 5: Select time-based condition

Add a time-based condition (e.g. "Every evening at 18:00").

Step 6: Select the type of time-based condition

Choose between:
Timer switch
Daily/weekly schedule (recommended for lighting control)
Once (for one-off scenes, e.g. Christmas)

Step 7: Set up daily/weekly schedule

Specify the desired days and times (e.g. Mon - Fri, always at 07:00).

Step 8: Add additional conditions

Add further conditions:
AND conditions (e.. switch on the light if it is Mon - Fri 08:00 and a movement is detected)
OR conditions (e.g. switch on light if it is Mon - Fri 08:00 or a movement is detected before 08:00)

Step 9: Add action (Then)

Once the "if" has been clarified, add the "then" - i.e. the action to be triggered (e.g. switch on the light).

Step 10: Select device action

Select the type of action to be performed, e.g. switch off the light.

Step 11: Select light source

Determine which device or light source is to be controlled (e.. the ceiling light).

Step 12: Which state should be changed?

Select which status of the device is to be changed:
Switch on
Switch off
Switch state (from on to off or vice versa)

Step 13: Timer setting

Optionally, you can set a customised timer so that the light switches off after a certain time (e.g. after 30 minutes).

Step 14: Delay action

When using a motion detector, it makes sense to combine switching off with a delay (e.g. the light switches off 5 minutes after motion is detected).

Step 15: Check scene settings

Check the entire configuration for errors or inconsistencies.

Step 16: Add scene (assign room first)

Assign the scene to a room so that it is displayed correctly in the app.

Step 17: Name the scene

Give the scene a unique name, e.g. "Evening lighting".

Step 18: Scene is displayed in the room

After saving, you will find the scene under "Scenes" in the selected room and can edit it at any time.

Step 1: Select room

Requirements for lighting control with the Shelly app

To control your lighting system with the Shelly app, you need a Shelly device such as the Shelly 1 flush-mounted module, which is installed behind your light switch and connects to your 2.4 GHz WLAN. Then install the free Shelly app on your smartphone or tablet. Important: Your smartphone or tablet must support at least iOS 11 or Android 6.

After registering in the app, add the Shelly device and configure it. Make sure that your Wi-Fi is stable and that the Shelly device receives sufficient signal strength. A neutral conductor is often required at the installation site. The Shelly 1L can be used in older buildings without a neutral conductor.
