Shelly Reset: How to Restart Your Device Step by Step
Wi-Fi lost, unresponsive device or justflashing LEDs? Time for a Shelly Reset! Here's how to return your device to factory settings – and get it up and running again in no time.
A Shelly Reset means restoring your device to its default factory settings. This erases all configurations: Wi-Fi login, schedules, scenes, user data and more.
A reset is helpful when your device stops working properly or when you want to pass it on to someone else. Afterward, the device behaves like it did right out of the box.
Note: The reset affects only the device itself. Your Shelly accountremainsintact, and depending on the reset method, the device may still appear in your app.
You can reset a Shelly device in fourdifferent ways:
1. Via the App: Select “Factory Reset”in the device settings – thisdeletesall configurations and removes the device from the app.
2. Via WebUI: Open the device’s IP in a browser and click “Factory Reset” under "Settings" – no app needed.
3. Physical Reset Button: Hold down the reset button for about 10 seconds until LEDs start flashing – the device resets to factory state.
4. Via Switch/Button: Many Shelly devices can be reset using a connected switch or button. Toggle it on/off quickly 5 times (varies by device). Important: You must turn it on and off quickly, otherwise the reset will not be recognized.
These methods work for most Shelly devices and are often the first choice:
Hold ~10 seconds until LED flashes
Toggle on/off 5× quickly Button lab
Go to browser > “Settings” > “Factory Reset”
Select “Factory Reset” – resets and removes the device
These methods only apply to certain models and often depend on the device type or firmware:
Gen2 Devices (e.g. Pro, Wall Display): HTTP request to http://[IP]/rpc/Shelly.FactoryReset
Shelly Plug S: Unplug, plugback in, press button 10 seconds within 60 seconds
BLU Devices: Remove battery, reinsert, hold button 30 seconds
Relays / i4 with switch: After power on, press switch 5× within 60 seconds
LED Bulbs: Often 5× fast power toggle (firmware-dependent)
A Shelly Reset can help if:
→ The device no longer connects to Wi-Fi
→ Controls don’t respond
→ You’re handing the device over to someone else
Some devices may even enter reset mode unintentionally due to power surges or outages. After a reset, the device starts like new.
Rather than troubleshooting endlessly, a Shelly Reset can be the fastest, most effective solution.
After a reset, your Shelly device returns to factory defaults. It no longer recognizes your Wi-Fi, has no saved scenes or schedules and is disconnected from the cloud.
It starts in AP mode and creates its own Wi-Fi network. You’ll know a reset was successful by the flashing of the LED or hotspot name.
Important: Shelly account, cloud devices and firmware updates stay intact – only device settings are cleared.
If you reset using the Shelly App:
If reset via WebUI button, or switch, it stays visible in the app but shows as “offline”. Note: Resetting and removing are separate – some methods do both.
The LED starts flashing, the device enters AP mode and its Wi-Fi network appears. You can then reconnect and reconfigure.
Hold the reset button for ~10 seconds, until the LED flashes. Some models may need to be powered off first.
Yes – using the app, you can perform a full factory reset, and the device will also be removed from the app.
Check Wi-Fi, power and router. Try accessing via app or WebUI. If that fails: Power off briefly, restart or perform a reset.
