At Webit Festival 2025 in Sofia, Dimitar Dimitrov, CEO and Co-founder of Shelly Group, was honored with a special Changemaker Certificate and Plaque in the “Entrepreneurship and Investment” category. This award acknowledges Dimitrov’s instrumental role in transforming Shelly from a Bulgarian startup into a European smart technology leader and the first Bulgarian-founded tech company to exceed $1 billion in public market capitalization.
From Experiment to Global Unicorn
During a panel discussion, Dimitar Dimitrov emphasized that hard work, both his own and his team's, combined with a bit of luck, was crucial for success. He highlighted Shelly's growth into a global IoT brand, selling over 23 million devices in 130+ countries. Dimitrov explained that Shelly, initially a software company, ventured into home automation due to a lack of suitable smart devices. They opposed closed ecosystems and decided to create their own hardware to realize their vision.
