Introduction
In your Shelly Smart Control application, tap on the device to open its control panel. You can use the different tabs to manage the behavior of the device.
Cloud recordings setup
After you add your camera to the app, you need to set up a password key to enable cloud recordings of the camera video stream. Your videos and images will be encrypted so only you can see them.
IMPORTANT:
-
You can only decrypt the video recordings of the camera with your password key. Remember your password key and do not share it with anyone as it cannot be recovered.
-
Rotating the encryption key (Cloud storage > Rotate encryption key) only affects future recordings, which are encrypted with the new key. The existing recordings remain encrypted and decryptable with the original password key.
-
Video recordings are not kept before setup.
When you open the Main controls tab, enter your password to decrypt and view the camera video recordings saved in the cloud.
Main controls
In the Main controls tab, you can view the live video streaming from your camera, its motion status, and the latest video recordings stored in your profile. If you have a microSD card inserted in your camera, the recordings are also stored in the local microSD storage that you can view in the Web UI of the device.

Motion and privacy zones
You can use the Motion and privacy zones tab to add a zone for which you can configure specific settings. There are two types of zones: Motion zone and Privacy zone.
What are motion and privacy detection zones
-
Motion zone
The motion zone is a user-defined area within the camera's field of view; it is used for motion detection. -
Privacy zone
The privacy zone is a user-defined area within the camera's field of view; it is shown in black, blocks out that area in all video streams, and does not report motion.
Adding detection zones
-
Go to the Motion and Privacy zones tab.
-
Tap on the type of the zone that you want to add: Motion or Privacy.
-
Tap the Add detection zone button.
-
Personalize the zone by adding its name and color.
-
Specify the zone area by swiping the detection window.
-
Tap the Save button.

-
Tap on the type of the zone that you want to enable: Motion or Privacy.
-
Find the zone that you want to enable.
-
Switch on the toggle to enable detection for this zone.
Result: If you enable a motion zone, the camera detects motion, which can trigger a recording, automatic action, or scene.
If you enable a privacy zone, that area is blocked out in all video streams, and you cannot see its content.
Camera and video
You can use the Camera and video tab to adjust the image and video quality settings of your camera to reflect the current environment.
Motion detection
Use this section to configure your camera motion detection and recording settings.
Motion sensitivity
Configure how sensitive the camera is to detect motion: Very low, Low, Medium, High, or Very high.
Record on motion
IMPORTANT: To record a video when motion is detected, make sure motion detection is enabled in the settings of the specific zone.
Enable the option if you want the camera to start recording automatically when a motion is detected.
Live streams
Your camera has 2 live streams: Main stream and Substream 1. For example, you can use Main stream at high resolution when you need to retrieve high-quality video data, while simultaneously using Substream 1 at low resolution to monitor over a slow internet connection, where high image quality is not necessary.
For each stream, you can adjust the quality by configuring the following settings:
-
Resolution - select the stream resolution and frame rate, for example 1280x720@25, to fine-tune your video quality. Higher resolution and frame rate mean higher video quality, more details, and more storage space used.
-
Bitrate - select the stream bitrate in kbps (kilobits per second). Higher bitrate means better video quality and more storage space used.
RTSP
IMPORTANT:
-
Turn on authentication. Without authentication, anyone on your local network who knows the address can open the stream.
-
The RTSP streams are not encrypted. Anyone who can capture traffic on your network can view the video and audio.
-
Keep it in your local network. Never forward the RTSP port on your router, and only enable RTSP if you trust the devices on your network.
Enable local access to the video streams of the camera over Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP). As the RTSP streams are not encrypted, protect the access to your device by creating a password in the Authentication tab in the Web UI of your device.

Example 1:
If you select the Start recording local action, and if you set the 13:15-13:20 time range for the schedule without selecting specific minutes within it, the camera starts a new recording every minute once the previous recording ends. In this example, the first recording starts at 13:15 and the last one starts at 13:19. If you select only the two boundary times (13:15 and 13:20) without any minutes in between, the camera records just twice: once at 13:15 and once at 13:20.
Example 2:
If you select the Privacy mode local action, and if you set the 13:15-13:20 time range for the schedule without selecting specific minutes within it, the camera enters privacy mode at 13:15 and stays in privacy mode until you turn it off manually.
