What do you need to control lamps via app?

Control lamps via app: It's not complicated! All you need is a smartphone and a smart device - this can be a smart lamp, plugs or a switch. Smart lamps can replace conventional light bulbs and can be controlled directly via Wi-Fi.

If the light bulb cannot be replaced, you can install smart relays such as the Shelly 1 or Shelly Dimmer behind the light switch instead. Alternatively, you can plug in smart plugs to control floor lamps or other lights. With the corresponding app - we recommend the Shelly app - you can conveniently control your smart lighting, set up schedules and adjust the brightness, dim the light or control the light colors at any time according to your needs.

What does the smart home motion detector from Shelly offer?

Lighting control with the Shelly app is uncomplicated:

  1.  Have a Shelly relay (e.g. Shelly 1, Shelly Dimmer) installed by an installer. You can find a trustworthy specialist in your area using our map.
  2. Connect device to WLAN After installation, connect your Shelly device to your WLAN. You do this directly in the Shelly app.
  3. Add device in the app Open the Shelly app and add your device. Give it a name and assign it to a room.
  4. Switching the light on and off Once set up, you can switch the light on or off immediately using the app.
  5. Setting up scenes and automations You create scenes in the app, e.g. "When motion is detected, switch on the light". You can also configure automations such as timers here.

Light control via voice control

Imagine you don't have a hand free at the moment because you're carrying heavy shopping bags or your child in your arms. It's a good thing that you can control your lights using voice assistants such as Google Assistant, Siri or Alexa as well as your smartphone. They make switching on and off with voice commands incredibly convenient.

Shelly can be easily connected to Alexa, for example: Activate the Shelly skill in the Alexa app and link your Shelly account. Alexa automatically recognizes your Shelly devices. Now a command such as "Alexa, switch on the light in the hallway" is all you need. And the good news: light scenes and automations in your Shelly app remain active.

Control lamps via Blu Button

The Blu Button is ideal if you want to control your lights conveniently but don't want to use a fixed switch. To set up the Blu Button, you need the Shelly app, which you use to configure it and connect it to your Shelly device from the second generation or the Blu Gateway via Bluetooth.

With the Shelly Blu Button, you can control your lights just like with a remote control. You can assign up to four different commands to it, e.g. light on, off, dimming or starting a scene. One click is all it takes to switch your light.

The Shelly Blu Button is mobile and also works without a WLAN connection. This keeps control simple and flexible. Perfect for hard-to-reach floor lamps, for example.

Control LED lights via smartphone

LED lights are not only particularly energy-efficient, but also versatile. This makes them the ideal choice for lighting control. With Shelly, you can easily control them via your smartphone and enjoy maximum flexibility.

If you want to control your LED lamps, you can use the Shelly 1PM, for example, to name just one of many options. If, on the other hand, you want to make LED strips smart, you need a relay such as the Shelly RGBW2. This can also be used to set up different light colors. However, your light bulbs must be suitable for this. That's why it's best to use Shelly light bulbs that are designed for this.

Once set up, you can conveniently control brightness, scenes and colors in the Shelly app.

You can also set up lighting plans there, e.g. warm white light at sunset. This allows you to adapt the light color and lighting scenes perfectly to your needs - from concentrated work light to cozy evening lighting.

Smart and flexible: the 5 advantages of lighting control via app

Advantages of control via app

  • Full control: You can control your light at any time and from anywhere, whether you are at home or on the move.
  • Simple operation: The app allows the light to be controlled intuitively, while classic light switches can still be used - ideal for guests or when the app is not in use.
  • Practical automations:
  • You can schedule timers so that your light comes on automatically at certain times. Or use motion detectors such as Blu Motion to activate the light only when it is really needed.
  •  Atmospheric scenes: You can create the perfect lighting scene for any situation - whether for relaxing, working or celebrating.
  •  Saving energy made easy: With targeted control, you can prevent lamps from lighting up unnecessarily and thus reduce your electricity consumption.

Smartphone as a remote control for smart lamps

You can control smart lamps with your smartphone like a remote control. The Shelly app serves as the central control unit. You can switch lamps on and off, dim them or change colors - just as you like.

Fancy a cozy, warm white light for a movie night? Zack, a tap of the finger. Or would you prefer party mode with bright colors? No problem - your cell phone makes it possible! You can also set up automations, e.g. motion sensors or schedules.

Your smartphone is always to hand and also works when you're on the move, as Shelly works via WLAN or a cloud server. You can even control several lamps in different rooms synchronously with a single tap. So simple, so flexible!
